The Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential is the most widely recognized credential in early childhood education in the United States and is a key stepping stone on the path of career advancement in the early childhood field.
About Child Development Associate
The Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential is based on a core set of competency standards, which guide early care professionals as they work toward becoming qualified teachers of young children. To qualify, early childhood teachers must have a strong knowledge base (education and Career Studies) and demonstrated practice (experience in the classroom).
The design of the Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential Program is based on the belief that teaching and home visitor skills and capabilities can be demonstrated. The CDA program is designed to assess and certify early childhood care and performance-based education professionals. A Child Development Associate (CDA) is an individual that has successfully completed the CDA assessment process and has been awarded the CDA Credential. CDAs are able to meet the specific needs of children and work with parents and other adults to nurture children's physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth in the context of child development.
This CDA qualificationsis a nationally recognized credential. The credential is issued initially for 3 years and every 5 years thereafter for the successful completion of the CDA renewal.
